Going Organic: Challenges & Opportunities
By Earth Institute
April 28,2009

Tune in/Watch: “Going Organic: Challenges & Opportunities”

The worldwide demand for organic products, especially in Europe, Japan, Canada, and the United States of America, is growing rapidly. Top Philippine organic exports now include muscovado, fresh banana, banana chips, and dried banana leaves. The domestic demand for organic products continues to rise, too.

These market trends have caused the increase of local organic farming communities. They have also created the need for organic standard setting and certification. The Organic Certification Center of the Philippines (OCCP) is the first certifying body accredited by the Department of Agriculture. The Organic Producers and Trade Association (OPTA) now also want to have a law that will help nurture the organic industry in the country.

Hear more about the challenges and opportunities in going organic in Kalikasan, Kaunlaran! (KK!) on April 29 2009, Wednesday, 6:30-7:30 PM, at DZRH-AM radio (666 in Metro Manila, other kHz nationwide), TV (Ch. 9 in Metro Manila, other cable TV channels nationwide), & Internet (http://dzrh.tripod.com or http://dzrh.prepys.com).

Guests are OPTA leaders Ager Valdez, past President, and Pabs Villegas, Director. Dr. Cora Claudio, President, EARTH Institute Asia, will moderate the discussion in conversational Tagalog-English.

Join the contests, campaigns & projects of EARTH/KK! To join all, register as a KK! listener by texting 2299: earthyour message.

KK! co-producers are EARTH Inst. Asia & DZRH, with the support of Unilever, Unilab, Manila Water, Pilipinas Shell, FERN, Inc., Toby's Sports, Delbros Supply Chain Solutions, Yehey.Com, MAP, & Brahma Kumaris, & with the cooperation of GREEN Army, PFST, TOWNS, PBE, AIJC, PEIA, DENR, MabuhayRadio, SanibLakas, & various egroups & environment-caring groups/individuals.

2) Join the EARTHnetwork for Sustainable Living —a network of producers, sellers, and consumers of eco-products for the wellness of people and planet earth. The network membership is now more than 60. Many of the members can provide ecologically sound technologies, other products, and services-- from decorative herbal plants to electric vehicles, from marketing of food supplements to design of ecologically sound buildings. Some join to help promote and market the eco-products. And others join just to help promote the production and consumption of eco-products.

To know more about the EARTHnetwork and the business opportunities that it offers, contact 671-3266, 0917-829-1718, or earthinstitute@gmail.com . EARTH welcomes requests for seminars on the eco-products in Metro Manila and in other cities.

Please forward these invitations to others. Thank you!
